Baja Hummingbirds

It’s only 75 degrees out today, winter must be here!  Time to do some backyard birding on the South side.  I just had to share a few hummer shots with you from yesterday.

Female Costa's Hummingbird

The female Costa’s Hummingbird is so dainty and so elegantly plain that she just doesn’t get her photo taken as much as the male.  But, I just had to

photograph her too.  We have about 6 at our south feeding station now.

Male Costa's Hummingbird

There are just as many male Costa’s

Hummingbirds, if not more.  Of course, they are always MUCH prettier than the female.  I just never really know what to say about that.  I’ll let you decide.

I shot a series of the same male so you could see him in different poses.  It’s really amazing how each position creates a huge difference in how his gorget sparkles in brilliant abundant color, or not.  Sometimes, even a different color or colors is shown.

And then we have the male Xantus’s Hummingbird.  Big difference in look, behavior and sound than the Costa’s Hummingbird.
